This latest book on the spectacular Steve Smale collection is the fourth to be published by Gloria Staebler’s Lithographie Ltd. Company. The first volume, The Smale Collection: Beauty in Natural Crystals, appeared in 2006, the second volume, The Smale Collection II, was published in 2021, and the third, The Smale Collection 3, in 2025. Once again, all photography is by Jeff Scovil.
From the forward of Gloria A Staebler: “Steve selected each of the images that appear in this (and every) volume for aesthetic criteria such as balance, proportion, and integrity (to our knowledge, no pictured specimen has had any treatment beyond cleaning and trimming). He also chose them with an eye toweard depicting China’s incredible mineralogical wealth and diversity.”
