Scarce. Although called a second edition on the title page, this appears to be the first appearance of the text in print. It is revised by A.G. Desmarest [1784-1838] and the chemist Jean Sebastian Julia de Fontenelle [1790-1842], and was a popular textbook in its day delivering a standard approach to the study of mineralogy. The text covers basic definitions, crystallography, fracture, luster, hardness, color, optics, transparency, chemical composition, nomenclature, and mineral classification. A long section at the end provides a descriptive mineralogy.
According to the advertisement: "Entirely recast in a new order, and made more complete by a large number of augmentations."
