Johnston, Chris (-2007 )

Christopher W. "Chris" Johnston was an American school teacher and part time mineral dealer in Australia; he was the proprietor of Australian Gem Company in Rostrevor, South Australia, though his more recent address was Lot 57, Yettie Road, Williamstown, South Australia. Chris sold Australian Gem Company and moved to Wagga Wagga in New South Wales to partner another Australian dealer, but died in late 2007.

Chris was an expert on the minerals of Broken Hill and the Copper mines of the Wallaroo Moonta mining field. He also co-authored a 1978 article in the Mineralogical Record on "Zinc Phosphates at Reaphook Hill, South Australia."

Chris was held in the highest regard for his integrity and promotion of the hobby of mineral collecting. He was the founding president of the Mineralogical Society of South Australia, and donated many fine specimens to the South Australian Museum.
