Bedognè, Francesco (1942-2012 )

Dr. Francesco Bedognè was an Italian mineralogist and mineral collector (and dealer?) in Sondrio, near Milan. He was born August 23, 1942.

Bedognè had numerous mineralogical publications to his credit, including works on the mineralogy of Val Chiavenna, Val Malenco, Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga,Tanno, Valtellina, and other sites. During the mid 1960s he was among the most active Italian field collectors and mineral collectors, and contributed significantly to the documentation of regional mineralogy in Italy. He was the author of dozens of articles, both in professional scientific journals and in popular magazines, and also wrote several key books on the mineralogy of Sondrio Province. He was a charter subscriber to the Mineralogical Record and received the magazine until his death on 17 July 2012, during a vacation on island of Crete.
