Published as a free-standing supplement to the September-October 2019 issue of the Mineralogical Record, this big book (192 pages) features highlights from the collections of 32 private individuals and two museums in the Pacific Northwest states and western Canada. Over 570 superb photos of great specimens are accompanied by information on how each collector got started and how they select their specimens. Most collectors would never get to see these specimens unless they happened to be personal friends with the collectors whose minerals are featured, or unless they personally visit the museums. This is a remarkable and unique documentation that every collector will enjoy.
The book begins with “A Brief History of Mineral Collecting in the Pacific Northwest,” a 12-page recounting of some of the most famous collectors and dealers who operated in the state.
Then follows the main body of the work: individual chapters on each collector or family, with biographical notes on their collecting orientations and philosophies, and color photos of their specimens. It concludes with a bibliographic review of all articles published by the Mineralogical Record on mineral localities in Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Oregon and Washington State.
