KOPECKY, Karel.

(1852 – 1920)

(Born: Havlíčkův Brod, Czech Republic, 2 January 1852; Died: Rychnov near Kněžnou, Czech Republic, 26 September 1920) Czech mineralogist & botanist.

Kopecky was from 1877 to 1910 a professor at the grammar school in Rychnov, where he taught natural science, mathematics, physics, geography, German, and folklore. He was an important botanist who developed a systematic classification scheme. He studied minerals, plants, birds, and hibernation in animals.
