(Born: Bari, Italy, 1668; Died: Bari, Italy, 1735) Italian lawyer, cleric & geologist.

Gimma studied jurisprudence at the University of Naples. He published a large number of works that he authored or editid on a wide selection of learned subjects.Canonical Abbot and, great sacred history student and literature, to single vent' years had already completed the course of philosophy and jurisprudence to the university of Naples. The Academy of the Spensierati (Incuriosi) of Rossano founded then in the 1695, but it refused the academic career offertagli near the university of Padova and Torino in order to dedicate itself to erudite and eclectic studies. A its great completed enciclopedico job between 1690 and 1693 is remained unknown. In 1700 taken the orders sacred and was name canonical of the Barium cathedral.

Very scarce. First and only edition of this magnificent work, which is a summation of all that was worth knowing at the time of minerals and gemstones. Adams considered it a guide book to the maze of ancient literature of the geological sciences. It is divided into six books. The first describes gemstones and their precious nature together with extensive references. Other discussions include color, phosphoresence, luminescence, virutes, pricing and fake gemstones. The second book considers the precious stones like diamond, emerald, sapphire, ruby and others. The third describes stones of lesser value and the fourth discusses stones derived from organic sources such as calculi, boazoar and other like stones. The fifth book describes marbles, mosaics, pietre dure inlays and many other similar examples. The sixth book is largely on earths of various kinds.
