Very scarce. Frémy was celebrated as the first to synthesis ruby. He had started the research in 1877 and brought the experiments to a successful conclusion in 1890. In this work he reports on the process, equipment, and materials used, and describes the technical problems encountered in the synthesis. The numerous plates show the crystals in various stages of growth, the equipment, and jewelry made from stones faceted from the material.
