ESMARK, Jens.

(1763 – 1839)

(Born: Houlberg, Stift Aarhuus, Denmark, 31 December 1763; Died: Christiania, Denmark, 26 January 1839) Danish mineralogist & metallurgist.

After an extended trip through eastern Europe, Esmark (or Esmarch) was appointed in 1802 lecturer on mineralogy and physics at the University of Kongsberg. Then in 1814, he became professor of mining science at the University of Christiania.

Very scarce. This short text outlines an extensive trip made by the author from 1791 to 1797 to examine the mineral wealth and methods used in a rich mining region of the Austro-Hungarian empire. The area visited now includes the portions of The Czech Republic, Hungary and Transylvania.
