(Born: 1788; Died: Wilna, Poland, c1840) Polish mineralogist & physicist.

Drzewiński recieved his higher education at the University of Wilna, where he received his Ph.D. in philosophy in 1813. In 1815 he accepted the professorship of mineralogy at the University of Wilna. Later he taught physics at the same institution.

Rare. Początki Mineralogii is probably the first textbook concerning mineralogy in the Polish language. It was written out of necessity to accompany the author's mineralogical course at the University of Wilna, there being no other suitable text in Polish.

The volume closely follows Wernerian principals by first discussing Oryctognosy or the physical characters of minerals, followed by relatively detailed descriptions of the minerals. A section on Geognosy is appended. The work finishes with Polish and Russian indexes to the minerals mentioned.
