Very scarce. The author set of for Guiana at the end of the year 1721 and left in 1724. He explored the rivers Kourou and the Orapus while studying flora and fauna and the customs of the inhabitants. The work also deals with sugar trade and with the Negro slaves and the various native tribes and includes details on the commerce and trade. This is the first important work on Guiana and formed the major source of the 18th century knowledge. It is distinct from the author's Essai sur l'Histoire Naturelle de la France Equioxials and is not another edition thereof. Although interesting in many subjects, this appears to have little of interest to mineralogy.

Rare. Barrère made a special study of the origin and formation of figured stones (i.e., fossils) that he had discovered in the Pyrenées. This work contains his insightful observations. For example Barrère supposes that the reason fossil shells are found on the tops of the highest Alps and the rocks of the Pyrenées is because the land had formerly formed a basin in a great ancient sea. The two engraved plates show good depictions of figured stones and fossils.
