ENDLICH, Frederic Miller.
(1851 - 1899)

(Born: Reading, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., 14 June 1851; Died: Tucson, Arizona, U.S.A., 17 July 1899) American mining engineer.

Endlich was from 1872 to 1880, mineralogist and chemist at the Smithsonian Institution. During the period 1873 to 1879, he was assistant on the U.S. Geological and Geographical Surveys under F.V. Hayden [1829-1887]. From 1880, to the time of his suicide, Endlich was engaged as a mining engineer consultant in various parts of the American west.

After explaining in the preliminary pages that this book is written either for classroom instruction or self study, and that the blowpipe reactions of only the common minerals are given, Endlich in six chapters covers (I, pp. 13-33) appliances and reagents required for qualitative blowpipe analysis, (II, pp. 37-146) methods used in qualitative analysis, (III, pp. 149-161) tables giving reactions for oxides of earths and metals, (IV, pp. 165-249) promienent blowpipe reactions, (V, pp. 253-302) systematic qualatitive determination of compounds, and (VI, pp. 305-449), determinative tables and their application.
