Johannes Fromme

Dr. Johannes Fromme was a pharmacist (Apotheker), mineralogist and geologist. He wrote an article on systematic mineralogy for Verein für naturwissenschaft zu Braunschweig in 1897. He also wrote two articles with descriptions of new mineral species for Tschermaks mineralogische und petrographische Mittheilungen, one a 12-page article on "Minerale aus dem Radautale, und auch Pyknochlorite, eine neu Chloritart" in 1901 (Pyknochlorite was determined to be an iron-rich chlinochlore in 1975), and "Brunsvigit, ein neuer Leptochlorit aus dem Radauthale," also in 1901 (Brunsvigite was shown to be a magnesium-rich chamosite in 1962). Both of the labels shown here are for specimens from Radauthal--the Radau Valley in the Harz Mountains near Harzburg--which must have been a favorite locality.
