Raymond G. Woodman
Raymond G. Woodman of Auburn, Maine was born July 1, 1927. He graduated with a degree in geology from the University of Maine in 1950 and had a career as an engineer with the Maine Department of Transportation, continuing as a consultant after retirement in 1988. He was a mineral collector before going to college and became a mineral dealer selling duplicates from personal collecting episodes as well as from estate mineral collections he acquired, on an occasional basis in 1974. Woodman never had a store, but was frequently a dealer at central Maine mineral shows from the 1980's to the present time. Woodman was an original founder of the Maine Mineral Symposium in 1989. He first had a printed collection label by the mid-1960's. The size chosen was to fit a Ward's Natural Science Establishment cardboard mineral specimen tray measuring 1 7/8" x 2 7/8 inches inside dimensions. He was co-author (with W.B. Thompson, D.L. Joyner and V. King) of A Collector's Guide to Maine Mineral Localities (1988).
