 Arizona's House of Rocks

Monnie Speck and her husband Jim owned the Arizona House of Rocks, a rock shop near South Mountain in Phoenix; for a time she had quite successfully worked the Rowley mine for wulfenite specimens.

Monnie Speck was born “Monnie” Murriel Leslie in Missouri on July 3, 1899. She married James Edward Speck (April 26, 1901-Dec.30, 1980); he came to Phoenix in 1931-1935 and operated a pasturizing creamery in Phoenix in 1940. She and her husband Jim, born in Kansas, both had an 8th-grade education.

Monnie died September 21, 1990, in Phoenix.
