Frank K. Birkin     

Frank K. Birkin operated a mineral specimen business under the company name of "FKB Minerals" at 22 Heathend Road, Alsager, Cheshire. He issued mineral lists in the 1970's. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the Royal School of Mines, and is a member of the Association of Chartered Management Accountants. He is currently Professor of Accounting for Sustainable Development at the University of Sheffield.

Before entering higher education, Frank held appointments in the UK and in Africa as financial accountant, management accountant, financial analyst and systems analyst. His practical experience was gained in electrical, electronic and computer manufacturing as well as in opencast and underground metal mining. He has lectured in the UK and in Kenya on all major branches of accountancy as well as on related management subjects such as statistics, information technology, business mathematics and business strategy. At Sheffield, Frank has pursued a very active research programme relating to the social, environmental and ecological aspects of accounting and management. He has published seminal papers relating to accounting for sustainable industrial development in a range of international journals.
