David Scott Burgess was born April 18, 1951. He attended New London High School and Waterford High School in Connecticut in 1967.
The mineral burgessite was named in his honor in 2009 (he supplied the type specimen for study). He was a prolific mineral species collector and aspiring curator living in Meriden, Connecticut. He established the Nature's Soul Mineral Museum and Educational Center, Inc. in his home in Newington, Connecticut, in 2004, and was a member of the Bristol Mineral Club.
David Burgess died August 28, 2016, in Newington, Connecticut. His collection was distributed by Minerals Unlimited.
