Established in 1834, the Universite Libre de Brussells was divided in 1970 into separate Dutch and French-speaking universities. As a private, autonomous and nondenominational university with 8 campuses, the university receives substantial public-sector support under a per-capita system. The Laboratory of Mineralogy and Petrology, located at Avenue F. D. Roosevelt 50 in Brussells, Belgium, maintains a study collection of over 5,000 minerals and nearly 7,000 rock specimens.
