 Brown University
(1764-    )

Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island was founded with a charter from the Colony's General Assembly in 1764, and the first men registered at the college in 1765. The first women were admitted in 1891, when the establishment of the Women's College in Brown University marked the beginning of eighty years of a coordinate structure for educating women within the University. Brown is now a coeducational institution, drawing men and women from all over the United States and many other countries to participate in the academic and extracurricular life of an Ivy League university. There are currently more than 7,000 students at Brown, of whom 5,600 are undergraduates. A major is offered in geological sciences (geology–biology, geology–chemistry, and geology–physics/mathematics).
