Austin Day Brixey, Jr.
(1918-    )

Austin Day ("Brix") Brixey, Jr. of Greenwich, Connecticut was born in New York on October 5, 1918, the son of Edythe Goodwin and Austin Day Brixey (1886-1937), a wealthy manufacturer of laboratory materials. A graduate of Choate School (Wallingford, Connecticut), he obtained his B.A. from the University of Virginia in 1941, and worked for the Tennessee Vallery Authority. He was a decorated member of the American Field Service during World War II, serving 32 months in the Middle East, Italy and France, and was wounded in action. In 1948 he married Lucille Loring Moncrieff (1920-2002), and received his M.A. degree in Geology that same year from Columbia University (His thesis was on "An Eocene ostracoda fauna from Parris Island, South Carolina"). He then served as an instructor in the Geology Department of Hofstra University in 1949-1950, and has also worked as an artist. He married Eleanor Weprek in 1982. He currently lives in Norwalk, Connecticut.
