Otto Schmidt
(1868-ca. 1924)

Dr. Otto Schmidt was born in Bergisch-Gladbach, Rheinland Palatinate, Germany, on July 9, 1868, the son of Julie Philippine Odenthal and Johann Georg Schmidt. He worked as a metallurgical plant director in Bergisch-Gladbach, Germany, and died ca. 1924. His mineral collection (approximately 1200 specimens) was sold to the city of Bergisch-Gladbach in 1925, and used for teaching purposes in the secondary school there. In 2016, after having been moved several times, the remaining specimens from the collection were sold to a dealer in order to provide funds for the city's fossil collection. His mineral labels were not personalized, but after the sale were overstamped "Dr. O. Schmidt."
