Lee Arlington Hogg of Monrovia, Maryland, was born in Hagerstown, Maryland, on January 27, 1961, the son of Betty Lou Johnson and Marshall Lee Hogg. He married Jane Elizabeth Shepherd, his wife of 31 years; together they had two children, David and Rebekah.

Lee was an environmental scientist working in soil and water testing for land and building site development. He earned an Associate's Degree in Mining Engineering from the West Virginia University Institute of Technology in 1982, and his BA Degree in Geological Engineering from the University of Arizona in 1985. After graduation he worked for Schnabel Engineering as a Senior Staff Geologist (1985-1993), as Project Manager for the Environmental Engineering Group (1993-2005), and as Senior Geologist for Cardno ATC (2005-2016). He was a Certified Professional Geologist, and a member of the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists (since 2003), as well as the NRA and the Sigma Pi Fraternity.

Lee enjoyed carving and woodworking, drawing and painting, skeet shooting and especially mineral collecting. He died on April 18, 2016, at the age of 55. Some of his mineral collection was purchased by Spanish dealer Jordi Fabre, including some fine Bisbee specimens Lee had obtained from Bisbee specialist Richard Graeme.
