Prof. Luigi Puecher Passavalli was from a wealthy family originating in Trentino, Italy. He was placed in charge of mineralogy, geology, botany, zoology and entomology at the State Agricultural and Technical School in Florence, Italy, in 1930. He also spent time as the Dean of the Agricultural Technical Institute of Imola (the Scarabelli Institute) (1946-1966), and helped establish a branch campus of the school in Bologna, arranging for the administrative and technical staff, the building facilities, the study material and the testing materials. His publications, primarily in botany, span the years 1932-1958. In 1969 he was awarded the Gold Medal for his achievements by the School of Culture and Art.

[Note: Not to be confused with Archbishop Luigi Puecher-Passavalli (1820-1897), a prominent Italian Catholic ecclesiastic.)
