Charles E. Baldwin
(1945-    )

Charles Eugene "Chuck" Baldwin, mineral collector and local mineral dealer in Golden, Colorado, was born in Oakland, California on December 5, 1945, the son of Jeanne Nims Baldwin and James Baldwin, motel proprietors. He graduated with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from Montana State University, an MS in Business Administration from the University of Northern Colorado, an MS in Environmental Ecology from the Colorado School of Mines, and an Associate's degree in Construction Management from Red Rocks Community College. He was a co-founder of the Extractive Metallurgy Chapter of the Denver-based Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration in 1980.

Chuck began collecting fossils and rocks at an early age in Montana near his home town of Harlowton while in grade school. However, it wasn't until after moving to Golden, Colorado in 1970 that this interested blossomed. Chuck joined the Colorado Mineral Society in 1970 and became Vice-President in 1973-1974. During this time he was active in attending meetings, joining in and leading field trips, and teaching faceting to club members. He also joined the Colorado Chapter of the Friends of Mineralogy (FM) in the late 1970s. Chuck became a local mineral dealer (Noble Gems), also in the late 1970s, which lasted until the early 1980s. He was co-author of an article in the Mineralogical Record (volume 11, no.1, January-February 1980) titled "An occurrence of barite at Hartsel, Colorado."

Chuck then took a hiatus from minerals, selling his personal collection in the early 1980s, as the demands of his career and family took priority. It wasn't until 2014, long after his retirement, that his interest in minerals and collecting was rekindled and he began to slowly rebuild his collection. His interests now extend beyond minerals, including lapidary (faceting and cabochons), woodworking, and acrylic and oil landscape and wildlife painting.
