Louis J.  Pardo

Louis Joseph Pardo and his wife Steffie H. "Stella" (Rubacha) Pardo lived in Tucson, Arizona and operated Pardo's Rocks and Minerals from 1948 to 1973. Louis was born in Hartford, Connecticut on April 14, 1913. In 1937 he married Stella Rubacha; Stella was born in Manchester, Connecticut on December 11, 1912, the daughter of Helen Vincek and Matthew Rubacha. From 1937 to 1940 Louis worked as an aircraft machinist and "grinder" in Manchester. By 1946-1947 he had been promoted to foreman.

The 1948 Manchester City Directory states that they had "removed to California," but they ended up in Tucson, Arizona. They had a passion for minerals and lapidary, and opened Pardo's Rocks and Minerals near the airport at 6756 Nogales Highway. Louis also found work as a machinist; the 1958 Tucson City Directory lists Louis J. Pardo as a machinist (asst. foreman in 1959) working at Hughes Aircraft Corp. In 1973 the couple closed their shop and returned to their hometown of Manchester, Connecticut. Louis died July 13, 1996 in Manchester, at the age of 83. Stella died on November 19, 2005, at the age of 92.
