Arthur F. Eadie

Arthur Franklin "Art" Eadie, well-known mineral collector in Taft, California, was born in San Francisco, California, on October 20, 1912, the son of Vera Pauliska (or Paulichk) and John Eadie, a fire insurance clerk. Art's mother was a Hungarian immigrant. Art grew up in San Rafael (Marin County) and San Leandro (Alameda County, California).

After transferring from San Mateo Junior College, Art graduate from the University of California at Berkeley (where he was a member of Tau Beta Pi, the National Engineering Scholarship Honor Society) with a degree in Mining and Petroleum Engineering in 1936. He settled in Taft, Kern County, California in the 1950s, and worked as a geologist for Standard Oil, during which time he patented a well-cementing apparatus. In 1951 he married Phyllis J. Elledge in Monterey County, California. By 1963 he had left Standard Oil and worked thereafter as a consulting oil and gas engineer under the name of the Eadie Engineering Company.

Art's big advantage as a mineral collector was that he lived near Soda Lake, the source of the well-known bloedite crystals, and actually staked a claim on the occurrence. He collected some of the finest known bloedite crystals there, up to 6 inches across. He used the bloedite crystals as trading material to help him acquire some amazing specimens from other collectors over the years.

Art Eadie died in Kern County, California, on April 14, 1989. His collection was purchased by Sharon Cisneros (Mineralogical Research Company).
