Donald W. McCaig

Donald Ward McCaig, Jr. was born in Nacogdoches County, Texas on May 10, 1924, the son of Winifred Maud Upton and Donald W. McCaig, Sr. (1895-1958), an X-ray technician and photographer. He Graduated from the Colorado School of Mines with a Masters Degree in Mining and Geological Sciences. He married (1) Delores Marvene Sommerville (they had a son who died at birth), and (2) Margaret Jessatis; together he and Margaret had at least one son, Donald Ward McCraig, III.

Donald and his nephew, Thomas Ward Kutch, operated Southwest Mineral Supply Company in Santa Fe, New Mexico for over 40 years, supplying mineral specimens to universities, museums, institutions, collectors and students worldwide. He also served as Chief Engineer and Evaluator of Mining for the New Mexico Bureau of Land Management. He had recently been selling mineral specimens and mining-related items via eBay. He died January 2, 2012.
