Ronald James Kendig, born May 17, 1947, is a mineral collector and dealer in Pennsylvania. Ron has lived in Berks County all his life: West Wyomissing, Wernersville, Sinking Spring, West Lawn and Reading (hence Ron's intense personal interest in Berks County minerals and also Pennsylvania minerals.)
Ron attended three years in college (1965-1968) at Pennsylvania Military College (later Penn Morton College, and PMC Colleges; it changed names each year he was there), today known as Weidner College, located in Chester, Pennsylvania. He also studied mineralogy and science under Samuel C. Gundy, then Director of the Reading Museum in Reading, Pennsylvania. The recent book on The Mines and Minerals of Berks County, Pennsylvania (2016) by Ronald Sloto has around 26 photos (b&W) of specimens in the Kendig collection.
Ron and his wife Emilie R. Kendig (they married in 1968 and have two sons, Conrad and Christopher) were proprietors of "Nature's Window,"; they sold minerals and fossils at gem and mineral shows beginning in 1982, and later via eBay.
In 2009 they sold the large collection and library of New Jersey mineral collector Neil Wintringham (1922-2009). They have also sold the collections of Alan Delaney (PA) in 2011 & 2012, Barry Gehret, Jr. (PA) in 2006, Dr. F. P. (Fred) D'Esopo (NY) in 2000, Charles Wiegert (CT) in 1989, and Robert Eisenhauer (PA) in 1987
During his last two decades, Ron actively gave hands-on lectures to children and adults for the Reading Library, Nolde Environmental Center (Reading); he was a docent for the Reading Museum; and he hosted fossil field trips at the Canal #60 Park in Phoenixville and identified the finds of the day. He loved talking about minerals and collecting sites with fellow collectors and other dealers. Ron Kendig passed away on January 24, 2019.
