Robert G. Belcher
Currently active Canadian mineral collector and dealer in Banff, Alberta. Company name: The Aesthetics Underground. Deals in "Fine mineral specimens, gems and lapidary art from around the world."
Rob Graham Belcher, the proprietor of The Aesthetics Underground, was born in England in 1952, and came to Canada shortly thereafter with his parents. He was inspired to become a mineral collector after Mike Ridding opened his Silverhorn shop in Banff around 1980. Mike became his mentor, and dealing in minerals evolved as an outgrowth of his collecting. His first mineral show as a dealer was part of the opening of the Tyrell Museum in Drumheller around 1983. He specializes in aesthetic specimens, as his company name implies, and sold his personal collection in 1994-1996. He also deals in gemstones and lapidary objects. His current show schedule includes Denver, Portland, the FM Northwest Symposium, Victoria, Vancouver, and Calgary. He also does private shows in Canadian cities from time to time. No store, but he maintains a showroom in his condo.
